Environmental Assessment

Where there is a risk of contaminated soils at a site, Subterra can provide an environmental site assessment. Soil testing and soil contamination assessments are conducted in the form of a Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI) or Detailed Site Investigation (DSI).

PSI involves a site inspection and a comprehensive desktop review of site-specific historical information, incorporating engineering geology and contaminated soil assessment. This process helps determine the likelihood of soil contamination. If the PSI identifies a potential contamination risk, a DSI is then conducted. This involves soil investigation, including targeted sampling and laboratory-based soil analysis to identify specific contaminants such as heavy metals, asbestos, or pesticides.

If soil testing reveals contamination levels exceeding the National Environmental Standard for Contaminated Soils (NES-CS), a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) is developed. This plan outlines recommended mitigation measures, such as removal or containment. Subterra’s team of geotechnical engineering consultants provide site supervision and then compiles a Site Validation Report (SVR) to confirm that the work adheres to the RAP.
