Environmental Assessment

Where there is a risk of contaminated soils at a site, Subterra can provide an assessment in the form of a Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI) or Detailed Site Investigation (DSI). A PSI comprises a site inspection and a thorough desktop review of site-specific information, to assess whether soil contamination is likely, based on the site’s history. If the PSI concludes that there is a risk of contamination being present, a DSI is undertaken, comprising soil sampling and laboratory testing for the contaminants of concern (such as heavy metals, asbestos, or pesticides).

Where contamination is identified above the Soil Contamination Standards (SCS) given by the National Environmental Standard for Contaminated Soils (NES-CS), a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) is prepared, which includes recommendations for mitigation measures (such as removal or containment). Subterra monitors the site works and prepares a Site Validation Report (SVR) confirming that the works have been completed in accordance with the RAP.
